And Another 1 — Add Burberry To The List Of Designers With Racist Designs
After Gucci apologized for their turtleneck sweater that had a design that resembled blackface, another luxury fashion company is facing backlash over a racially insensitive design.
According to the Associated Press, Burberry has apologized after a model complained on Instagram over a hoodie that had it's strings tied in a noose during London Fashion Week.
Model Liz Kennedy first reported the clothing on her Instagram the day of the show posting about the clothing,
Suicide is not fashion. It is not glamorous nor edgy and since this show is dedicated to the youth expressing their voice, here I go. Riccardo Tisci and everyone at Burberry it is beyond me how you could let a look resembling a noose hanging from a neck out on the runway. Let’s not forget about the horrifying history of lynching either.
Marco Gobbertti Burberry CEO released a statement on Tuesday (February 19th) saying they are deeply sorry for causing distress and removed the hoodie from their collection along with any other images that features it.
Gucci and Prada have since announced initiatives to promote cultural diversity and awareness among their employees.
