The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred during a home robbery attempt on Tuesday night. Police were called to the 6700 block of Emerald Court in northwest Amarillo for a burglary where the homeowner had been shot. When officers arrived, they met the victim who had gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. He was transported to the hospital and there is no word on his condition.

During their interview, the victim told police that his dog alerted him to someone on the property. The victim armed himself and found the suspect in the garage. The homeowner shot at the suspect, who shot back, and fled the scene. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with tattoos and wearing a red shirt.
