Last year, Amarillo I.S.D. vamped up their security measures to make sure our kids will be safe.  But are all the kids safe?

This year, my son began kindergarten.  He was so excited and I was happy for him to start this new adventure.  That is until I saw his classroom.

Last year AISD put in new security measures like having to buzz in and show an id.  Which, I was all for.  It puts me at ease knowing that he is protected.  But this year was a little different.

When we went to meet his teacher, they informed us that his class was going to be in the portable building.  I have no problem with portables, as long as my son gets the education he needs and is safe.

Well, the portable is easily accessible to anyone.  It looks like a giant storage house that anyone could just walk up to.  Now, if I was a crazy person with several weapons, the doors to these portables would not be able to stop me.

I know that they keep the doors locked at all times, but just knowing that anybody could walk right up, leaves me a little uneasy.  Do you think kids in portables are just as safe as kids in the actual school house?
