This week we celebrate the 245th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. The next day, we celebrate Veterans Day.

While we honor and celebrate those who have given so much for their country, many of us too easily forget the issues that many of our Veterans face when they return home.

This Saturday (11/14) there will be a bike run held in Amarillo that will benefit the homeless Veterans living in Amarillo. According to their event page, proceeds from the run go toward the tiny home development that was created with the goal of ending homelessness among Veterans in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle.

For the bike run this Saturday, first stop and registration is at Smokey Joe's on 66. The first bike is out at noon.

The run will eventually end at Skooterz, with last bike in at 5 PM. There will be live music and other events as well.

As we spend two days this week thinking about and celebrating those among us who chose to serve our nation, let's not forget about those Veterans who are struggling.

The tiny home development is a really interesting project. As I was looking through the information about the project, I came across the blueprints that had been posted to Homeless Heroes social media page.

The blueprint shows a one bedroom home that basically consists of a kitchen/living room/dining room combo, bathroom, and bedroom. The home is just over 500 square feet. You can see the blueprint here.

Homeless Heroes has a goal of having ten of these tiny homes and a community center in their development. You can find out more by following this link.
