I love to find new recipes and try them out with my son.  I had seen a cake in a jar recipe all over Facebook and decided that that would be a great recipe to try.  Well, it didn't quite turn out the way I expected.

I love social sites like Facebook and Pintrest because I can get lots of cool recipes to try.  I had seen a recipe for a cake in a jar so I decided to try it.  I showed the recipe to my son and he was so excited that we went out and got everything we needed.

The recipe called for 4 1/2 pint canning jars 2 1/2 cups of fresh fruit, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp of salt and 1 1/2 tbsp of butter.  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  You get the fresh fruit (I chopped mine up a little bit) and divide it into the canning jars.  Then you mix the flour, sugar, and salt together with a fork until well blended.  You then take 1/4 cup and place on top of the fruit in each jar.  Then place the butter on top.

You then get the 4 jars and place in a baking dish.  You can use dry beans to keep the jars from moving around.  You place in the oven and bake for an hour.

I checked on them about half way through and noticed that some of the flour mixture was still dry and not mixing well so I used a spoon to push it down into the butter and fruit juices.  Once the hour was up, I took them out of the oven and placed them on a cooling rack.

They looked delicious but had absolutely no smell to them.  We let them cool completely and then decided to give them a try.  I don't know how to say this nicely, but they were absolutely disgusting.  My son said we just wasted some perfectly good fruit and I had to agree.

There are three of us in the house and we didn't even finish one jar.  I tried to describe the taste, but there are no words.  It wasn't sweet or bitter.  It was just gross.  Feel free to check out the pictures below or even try it for yourself-but I wouldn't.  LOL!  I love the whole idea of a cake in a jar so I plan on tweaking the recipe and make it work!
