A Boulder police officer shot and killed a large bull elk in Boulder, Colorado today and the residents of Mapleton Hill are very mad. The town of Mapleton considered the elk as family and was well-liked by many residents in Mapleton Hill. Locals of Boulder  elk  named the elk "Big Boy."

Here's what a resident had said about the elk "I felt really lucky that he would come into my yard, browse and just have his presence. He was such a magnificent animal," neighbor Judy Stone said.

The officer says he was on routine patrol when he saw the elk. The officer says the elk appeared injured because it was limping and some of its antlers were broken off.

Is this story weird to you yet?

If that's not weird here's a little twist for you. The elk was then taken to the officer's home to be processed for meat by another officer, who was off-duty at the time.

Now if that's not enough for you the neighborhood had a Elk memorial for "Big Boy."
