Popular Amarillo Restaurant Unexpectedly Closes For Good
As we near the end of 2024 here in Amarillo, we look back on a lot of different things. We celebrate new places that have opened, and we mourn the loss of others.
There had already been enough restaurants and businesses that shut their doors for good in 2024, and I can safely say I wasn't expecting to see one so close to the end of the year.
Unfortunately, it's another restaurant that has shut it's doors, so we have one less place to be grubbing at, and I'm sad it's this one that's shut its doors.
Good BBQ is hard to find in any city. Ok, there's a FEW cities that it's easy to find in. Amarillo is not one of those. That's not to say there isn't good BBQ here.
However, there is one less good BBQ place to get some brisket at as Doug's Hickory Pit Bar-B-Q has left the "sold out" sign on the door.
It's not that the business sold out, and yes it's true they're out of meat, but neither of those reasons are why Doug's won't be reopening.
Word is there was a gas leak that popped up in the building, and if you know anything about gas leaks, they aren't cheap to fix.
Something like that would have the health department way up Doug's backside, so they had to shut the doors. According to a post on Facebook, employees were told to start searching for new jobs.
There is a chance it could end up reopening down the road, but when employees are told that, there's a certain finality to it.
If this is truly the end, we will miss you Doug's. Can 2024 just be over already?
