Downtown Amarillo Library Remains Closed Due To Water Main Break
It wasn't supposed to take this long. In fact, they said it would only take another day to resolve. Yet in true Amarillo fashion, it's running behind.
Good news is, this isn't the only one we have in the city, so it's not ALL that bad.
Back on January 8th, the library located in downtown Amarillo closed their doors at 6 pm, anticipating they'd be able to reopen the doors on or around January 10th.
Unfortunately, that is not the case. While all the branches and locations shut down on Jan 9th due to the surprise winter storm we received, the downtown one was dealing with a different issue.
The city had an issue with one of the water mains, and it happened to be the one that served the downtown library.
Thanks to the weather, the repairs that should've taken just a short time to fix and allow the library to reopen are still ongoing.
That means the downtown library location remains closed, and any events or gatherings you would typically have there are postponed for the time being.
They did attempt to reopen January 12th, but because the repairs still weren't complete, they had to shut the doors early once again.
They've decided to just keep the facility closed at this point until the repairs have been completed.
There is no official word as to how long the repairs are going to take and how long the location will remain closed, but thankfully we have several locations you can still go to.
