15-Year Sentence for Amarillo Man in 2022 Eastridge School Park Homicide
An Amarillo man has been sentenced for causing the death of a 54-year-old man in 2022.
Adrian Manuel Hinojos appeared before 181st District Judge Tatiana Frausto on September 3 and pled guilty to the lesser included offense of manslaughter, a second degree felony. He was sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
On July 28, 2022 officers with Amarillo Police Department were called out to Eastridge School Park at 1300 Evergreen on a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male on the scene. They attempted lifesaving efforts, but the victim, later identified as Khamphanh Phoummphard, was later declared deceased.
Amarillo Homicide detectives were able to identify and locate a suspect, Hinojos, 30.
Hinojos was booked into Potter County Detention Center on a charge of murder where he remained in lieu of bond.
At the time of his arrest, Hinojos was on bond for probation violations. He had previously been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance in 2018 and was placed on deferred adjudication for a term of 8 years.
Hinojos bonded out of PCDC for the violations in February 2022, five months before the death of Phoummphard.

He was adjudicated of guilt for both offenses and was given a 10-year sentence for the aggravated assault charge and an 8-year sentence for the possession charge. At this time it is not readily apparent if the terms will be served consecutively or concurrently with the 15-year sentence for manslaughter.
Court records reflect that he initially retained attorney Ronald Spriggs to represent him. Spriggs is currently ineligible to practice law and was removed as counsel in October 2023.
Brooks Barfield is listed as Hinojos’ lead attorney.
