Texas Makes History with First Abortion Arrest: Shocking Details Inside
It's been one of the most talked about things in Texas since the bill was passed. Yes, abortion has been a huge hot button in the state. You're either on one side of the fence or the other when it comes to the issue.
There have been some extreme conversations wrapped around how much power the state has and what is truly illegal and what isn't. Things such as transporting someone to another state to have the abortion, to things such as sanctuary cities for the unborn.
Well despite all the debate over it and the legality of everything, we have our first arrest in the state since the bill was passed.
Maria Margarita Rojas was taken into custody and charged with performing an abortion illegally as well as illegally operating a network of abortion clinics within the state.
This is where things are going to start getting tricky. With this being the first arrest for it, we're going to get to see the process that unfolds and how it all works. I mention that being interesting because the state has limited prosecutorial responsibility here.
The state will have to request assistance from the attorney general in this case in order to prosecute it fully.
Apparently that has already been done as Attorney General Ken Paxton stated he's already done an extensive investigation into the clinics that Rojas operated, so clearly they are fully invested in this at the moment.
Rojas was indeed a licensed midwife, however she was not licensed to practice any kind of medicine, and that's the category abortions fall under.
According to the affidavit, Rojas was operating three different clinics in Waller, Cypress, and Spring. They all carried a slightly different name from one another.
