When a lot of events announced they were canceling last year, one event popped up to try and give the whole family something to look forward to. I have good news for you; the Route 66 Renaissance Faire is coming back its second year to 6th Street.
Free Family Fun
There's no cost to walk the strip of 6th Street between Western and Bonham. You and the family can throw on your costumes and go check out the Renaissance Faire without worrying about destroying your wallet just to get a peek.
There will be free games for the kids at the Lil' Squire and Maiden area in the SJCA parking lot. There will be costumed characters walking 6th Street from 11 AM until 4 PM.
Food, Vendors, and Rucksacks
This year, there will be all of the food and vendors you can handle. Also, shops will be open on 6th. Of course, with it being a Renaissance Faire, there will be turkey legs available.
There will be burlap rucksacks for sale for $10. You get one of these bags, and then you visit participating stores. Those stores have special "treasures" for you to store in your bag.
If you're looking for more keepsakes, there will also be fairy hair wreaths available.
Renaissance Faire for a Good Cause
This year, a portion of the proceeds are going to benefit the Amarillo Firefighters Pipes and Drums. If you've never been lucky enough to hear them, it's an incredible experience. They often play at funerals for heroes who have fallen in the line of duty. I've had the pleasure of being present when they've opened up fundraisers and events held for firefighters.
Honestly, I think it is an incredible cause to get behind, and they will be present during the faire.
There Will Be Plenty of Entertainment To Enjoy
It wouldn't be a good time on 6th without a lot of entertainment to take in. Along with the costumed characters, games, vendors, and food trucks there will also be live music and a book signing.
Eric Miller will be doing the book signing. You'll be able to take in live music and karaoke later that evening.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will even be showing up at around 4 PM to participate in the Route 66 cruise. After a couple of laps it will park and you'll have opportunities for photos.
Costume Contests A-Plenty
There will be plenty of chances for you to win with your costume, with a few different costume contests for the adults.
