Help 4 The Holidays Hits Midway Point With Surprising Shortages
We're reaching the midway point of Help 4 The Holidays here in Amarillo, and if it wasn't for a nice late-night surge last night, we'd be a little concerned with where we are. However, the last two hours proved fruitful, and now we're sitting in a decent spot.
However, that doesn't mean we're content. We still have a LOOOOONG way to go, and we're going to need more and more as the last four days of the event happen. We were a bit worried about the snow, but it proved to be nothing but a dusting, so that's helpful. Yes, it's cold...but remember, we're sitting out in it waiting for you. You don't even have to get out of your car.
Generosity Is Astounding
We've seen some pretty decent loads come through with several people, and we can't thank you enough for bringing more than just a couple of items. Yes, every item we receive, whether it's one or 50, is helpful, and we are so grateful for every person who drops something off.
One thing I wanted to highlight was a kiddo who made a very generous donation. My oldest son, who is a freshman, came to me yesterday morning and handed me a $100 bill. I asked him where that came from, and he said his friend Brekken handed it to him and said it was for Help 4 The Holidays. This is a high school freshman donating a large amount to the event. It warmed my heart to see, so thank you.
Day Four Needs
I'll start by saying we still need everything on the list, so please don't feel like you HAVE to purchase one of the focus items. I promise you, we don't have enough of anything at this point, so bring whatever you wish.
That said, we really do have a few focus items that we need to hunker down on. Diapers...my goodness, diapers. We only have one box. We need a lot more than that. Winter gear such as coats, hats, and waterproof gloves. As we all just found out, we need them. Eyeglasses can be used or new. Toys! We have surprisingly very few toys, so please start thinking about that.
We need a big day four, and since the snow is barely visible, please don't let the cold hold you back. You can stay in your car, even, we'll do the work getting it out. We'll see ya out here in Wolflin Square at the old Vexus building next to Ehle.
