When I was a kid growing up, I was obsessed with space.

Remember the movie "Space Camp" with Lea Thompson, Tom Skerritt and young Kelly Preston and Joaquin Phoenix? Ok, maybe you don't but I can't tell you how many times I watched it.

I so desperately wanted to attend the actual Space Camp because of that movie. Alas, I never got that chance. I know, sad story of a childhood right?

Well even in my older age, I find myself intrigued by the depths of space. The exploration of Mars has captivated me. I look at all the pictures and stuff being sent back. No, I don't want to go to space and check it out, but I do like seeing space phenomenon when I can stay down here on Earth.

Enter overnight tonight. A lunar eclipse is all set to take over the skies and I can't wait to set my alarm for it.

All that said, if you're like me you won't want to miss this. This particular lunar eclipse is special. This will be the longest partial lunar eclipse we've seen this century, so it's a rare one. What we're about to see tonight hasn't been seen in 580 YEARS.

According to timeanddate.com, the timeline is a complete overnight one. You don't need to stare at the sky for 6 hours though, they've gotten it all broken down for ya.

The eclipse will start right around midnight. By around 1:15am, you'll be able to see the moon turning red. At approximately 3am, we will have reached maximum eclipse status. This will be the most of the eclipse we will be able to see, so if you're only wanted to wake up once, this would be the time to set the alarm.

This has been billed as a once-in-a-thousand-years type of event. Don't miss what will be your ONLY chance to see something this spectacular in your lifetime.

Downtown Amarillo Over The Years

Downtown Amarillo has seen an incredible metamorphosis. Take a look at the photos below to see just how much it's changed--you won't believe the difference.

Untouched by Time: The Historic Homes of Polk Street Then & Now

You know you've entered Amarillo's historic district once you hit the red brick roads of Center City. A unique reflection of past and present, Amarillo's historic homes seem to pose pristinely against the curb.

These large, thoughtfully designed historic homes are part of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Amarillo. But most residents will agree that nothing quite tops the staggering royal beauty of the grand homes of Polk Street. Built by Amarillo's founding fathers, the looming estates of South Polk are a sight to behold.

Check out these stunning comparison photos that show how these gorgeous structures have remained nearly untouched by time.
