We get this question a lot, and we didn't even know what a Sod Poodle was until we got our minor league baseball team.

Answer: a prairie dog.

And if I may expand on this...I don't care who said that "sod poodle" has always been a nickname for prairie dogs....none of us Amarillo natives had ever heard anybody use the term before the baseball team names were announced. Periodt.

Answer: A very eccentric man by the name of Stanley Marsh, thought he would create art installments in some random fashion around the area. Believe it or not, the giant legs and upside down rusty cars are just two of the weird art projects that the controversial philantropist funded.

Answer: The Lee Family opened The Big Texan decades ago and to attract visitors they created a 72oz steak challenge.  If you can finish it you win the meal, a t-shirt, and bragging rights. If you can't you just ate a $72 meal.  Many try and fail, but few have accomplished the feat.  At least one has completed 2 of these complete meals in less than an hour, in fact 15 minutes, shout out Molly Schuler.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
