Free Family Fun in Amarillo: Carolers, Tree Lighting & ‘Polar Express

Fresh on the heels of Halloween, the City of Amarillo isn't wasting any time getting into the holiday spirit. Already, events are being announced that will bring yuletide cheer to families in the city.

Recently, it was announced that the U.S. Capitol Building Tree would be making a stop in Amarillo on its trip to Washington, D.C. Now, there's a second holiday event you need to put on your calendar.

What’s Happening On Nov 29

On November 29, 2025, Amarillo Parks and Recreation will be bringing in the holiday season with a bang. They'll be hosting their "Lights, Camera, Christmas!" event. This event will feature an important tree, carolers, and an iconic holiday movie.

The event will be held at the Civic Center, and it starts at 6:30 PM that evening. That's when the carolers will be singing, setting the stage for the rest of the night.

Event Schedule & Details

The carolers are followed by the lighting of the City's Christmas tree. That's always a big event downtown.

The lighting of the tree is followed by a showing of the holiday classic, Polar Express, in the Civic Center Auditorium at 7:30. There's no ticket price to attend, and hot cocoa and popcorn will be available for purchase.

What to Wear & Bring

You are encouraged to wear your favorite Christmas PJs for the event. You'll probably want to throw a coat on, too.

The holidays are a hectic time in Amarillo. There's all of the shopping, the planning, the meals, and tons of events. This event will be a good opportunity to take a breather, watch a classic with the family, and enjoy some holiday cheer.
