As the temperatures start to cool off in Amarillo, Texas, there is something that most of us need to do before it's too late. It's time to start thinking about bringing your plants inside.

The Chill is Coming to the Texas Panhandle

The National Weather Service in Amarillo posted earlier today ( October 22, 2025) on social media that we have a very good chance for our highs to dip by quite a bit. There's a chance we could see those daily highs get down into the mid-forties by next week.

If the highs are potentially going to be in the mid-forties, imagine what the lows could look like. It could get frigid at night next week.

With this cool down comes the need to protect your plants. The last thing you want to have happen is the temperature kill those flowers you've spent all spring and summer keeping alive.

Steps to Protect Your Garden

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, when temperatures begin to dip below 50 degrees at night, you should start planning to bring your plants inside. This will keep them from getting damaged by the cold.

Make sure to clean them off before bringing them inside. No one wants to bring bugs in with their plants. The bugs can fend for themselves outside.

Your Indoor Plant Setup

Also, ensure that you have space set aside that provides the plants with an adequate amount of light.  I learned this one the hard way last year with some hibiscus plants I had. Ample light is very important.

As the fall weather settles in for the season in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, don't forget about your plants.
