Luckily, there are things to do this weekend besides shopping. Best of all, some fantastic weekend events are completely free, making it easy to enjoy a win for your wallet.

Saturday, August 8

  • Lavender Fest: Everything lavender at Creek House Honey Farm (5005 4th Ave, Canyon) from 8 am - 2 pm. There will be honey wine, lavender lemonade, live music, and local vendors.
  • Free Family Fun Day: Anything free is welcome, and the Amarillo Museum of Art (2200 S Van Buren) from 11 am - 1 pm will continue the Route 66 Celebration with this event. They will have both indoor and outdoor activities, live music, yard games, face painting, and hands-on art making.
  • Clear the Shelter: This is happening throughout the month, but Amarillo Animal Management (3501 S Osage) is open 10 am - 6 pm. If you are looking for a cat or dog to add to the family, they are offering adoptions for half price this month.

Sunday, August 9

  • Brunch Karaoke PJ Party: Sunday is not a day to dread thinking about Monday. No, get out and for $15 enjoy brunch from Yolo's, a Bloody Mary and Mimosa Bar, and singing away the blues karaoke style. This is happening at Hoots (2424 Hobbs) from 12 pm - 3 pm.
  • Stitch and Sip: Want to have an afternoon of needle crafting with friends and drinks? This event will be happening at Cask & Cork (5461 McKenna Square) starting at 3 pm. The cost is $70, but you get a lot for the price, including food, drinks, a hand embroidery kit, permanent jewelry, and a goodie bag to take home.

Don't forget you can also take the family out to eat because their kids' meals are half price at Malcolm's (2100 Paramount Blvd) all month long. So skip cooking one night and enjoy a meal, and the kids get ice cream with theirs. A total win.

Monday, August 10

  • The Great American Road Rally: Celebrity Edition :Monday may not be something you are looking forward to, but we will make an exception this week as there will be some celebrity sightings this week on August 10. The CW will be filming a Route 66 episode out at Arts in the Sunset (3701 Plains Blvd). The fun starts at 5 pm with the car show and food trucks.
  • StarBase Kids Space: If you want to take the kids to play on Monday instead, then StarBase Kids Space (5461 McKenna Square on the backside of Amp'd) will be ready. They will be hosting their Alien Invasion from 5 pm - 7 pm. There will be galactic games,  cosmic scavenger hunt, and photo opportunities all during their light-glowing Starlight Session. Cost is just regular admission.
