
This Amarillo Underpass Feels Like a Hidden Roller Coaster
Every town has a special landmark that has created memories for thousands over the years. A place where memories are made and creates a different experience for everyone. Amarillo is no stranger to special landmarks. In fact, this city has a few that locals hold close.
The Road That Made Growing Up More Fun
However, this one just happens to be a road. As you may or may not know, I grew up in Hereford. We had that one road with a sudden dip in it, almost like a roller coaster when you hit it just right. I would always encourage my parents to drive faster over it, and when I started driving, I would fly over that hump in the road and giggle every time.
Amarillo’s Mini Roller Coaster Under the Tracks
That same feeling exists at the Fillmore underpass in Amarillo, known to some as Kiddie Car Hill. Catch it at the right speed, and it feels like a sudden free-fall. Your stomach drops, you lift slightly from your seat, and suddenly you remember why seatbelts matter. This underpass creates excitement, anxiety, happiness, and fear. It's different for everyone, and if you have grown up here or lived here long enough, you purposely take that route to experience the lift.
The nostalgia is real with this landmark.
