According to a new study done by, traffic fatalities during Thanksgiving have risen 24% since 2020 and have hit the highest levels since 2007.   More and more people are choosing against flying and driving to their Thanksgiving destinations instead.

You'll need to avoid these Texas cities and counties if you are traveling this Thanksgiving.

Texas sees the highest number of traffic fatalities than any other state in the US.

The top Texas Counties for speeding-related fatalities are Dallas County, El Paso County, and Bexar County

The top Texas Counties for drinking-related fatalities are Dallas County, Bexar County, and Travis County.

The Deadliest Times to Travel

The deadliest times to be on the road are Saturday during Thanksgiving, followed by Thanksgiving Day, and then Black Friday.

The deadliest time to travel is on Thanksgiving day between 6-7 pm, Wednesday before Thanksgiving 6-7 pm, and Saturday 6-7 pm.

Who is driving?

73% of the drivers involved in fatal Thanksgiving holiday crashes were men, 1/3 were drivers in their 20s and 27% of those were male.

<a href="" target="_blank">According to AAA</a>,   4 million Texans will travel during the Thanksgiving holiday.  This a 2% increase from last year, and a 4% decrease from 2019.    AAA is projecting this Thanksgiving to be the third busiest on record, with 55.4 million travelers expected compared to 58.6 million in 2005 and 56 million in 2019.

Just be careful if you are traveling this Thanksgiving holiday.  Always pay attention, don't text and drive, watch your speed, and always be aware of your surroundings.
