However, this haunted ghost story took place in a former dorm building on the campus of WTAMU.

The building I speak of was Stafford Hall.  Stafford Hall was built in 1935 on the WTAMU Campus then known as West Texas State Teachers College, and at the time it was one of the oldest dorms on campus.  The University had the building demolished in 2019.

Throughout the years, rumors floated around about how Stafford Hall was haunted.  The dorm was said to be haunted by a former student who committed suicide inside the dorm room.   Another alleged death took place when a girl fell down a staircase in the dorm and died.

During my stint at WTAMU, I did not live in Stafford Hall, but I had friends who did.  They said that they heard noises all the time, and heard doors slamming (which for a dorm room isn't uncommon) and voices where there shouldn't have been voices.  I will say every time I was in the dorm, I always had an uneasy feeling.

Some people have said they have felt someone pass them as they are using the stairs, but no one else was on the staircase.

Many other rumors fly about the old Stafford Hall, and one of them makes me giggle.  Apparently one of the ghosts enjoyed popcorn and people who lived there would always smell popcorn, even when no one made popcorn.

It was an old dorm, and it was sent to its eternal resting place, however, did the ghosts go with it?

Can you still hear voices on that plot of grass?  Do the ghosts still wander through the trees? Does the smell of lingering popcorn still waft through the air?

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
