Let’s Get Guy Fieri to Amarillo and Savor its Unique Flavors
Diner's Drive-ins and Dives has been a great show on the Food Network. Host Guy Fieri takes you to different towns and cities throughout the country and tells a great story of a restaurant and its food.

The guy has been everywhere, heck he's probably been everywhere just like in the song, but not Amarillo. Guy Fieri hasn't made a trip to Amarillo to feature many of our amazing restaurants.
We have had many shows come through to sample fare at some of our favorite places, like Man vs. Food who visited the Big Texan, Coyote Bluff, and even the now-gone Stockyard Cafes.
However, Guy hasn't ventured to Amarillo to try out some of our unique restaurants.
How do we get Guy Fieri to Amarillo to check out our Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
It would be great to get Guy into Amarillo and some of the surrounding towns. Our Texas Panhandle Towns have some amazing restaurants and need a little love as well. So what's the process?
First of all, you can nominate a restaurant in our area to be on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. You can visit Guy's website here and fill out the form to suggest a Triple D Hotspot. Another way of suggesting a restaurant is to email, storyideas@tripledinfo.com.
In order to get featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives it isn't just as simple as an email saying, "Hi, come visit my restaurant," or "This is my favorite place to eat Guy, you need to come visit." You can send that information but know that if a restaurant is chosen then it will be a lot of hard work. Most of the time it is the producers of the show that scout out restaurants all over the country. However, viewer suggestions are always wanted.
What are the steps the restaurant has to follow?
The Restaurant has to have an amazing backstory. It has to have the classic struggle or it changed the life of the owners, or it was started 100 years ago by a family member, or it has changed the community. If the menu isn't a basic menu and has some unique items, that's a plus. The restaurant has to have homestyle cooking, i.e. all made from scratch and no frozen foods.
Even after you suggest a spot and pique the producer's interest, the restaurant will be heavily vetted, and go through multiple interviews. If the interview process starts that still doesn't mean a show spot is secured. So if you are a restaurant owner and have gotten to the interview process, bring out the personality, bring out the fun, the hard work, and the story. Then after that process, they might send a person out to visit the restaurant.
Once all that is done, the producers will take that research, and present it to Guy for his approval. No restaurant gets on the show without Guy's approval.
It takes months of prep work to get an episode ready to film. Owners are responsible for all food costs, and all ingredients for the entire menu must be on hand on filming day. The restaurant will have to close to the public on the day(s) of filming. Plus, a film crew will have to be able to take over your kitchen. In the end, Guy will have a final say on which dishes will be featured on the show.
Please note, if the show does make it to the area, multiple restaurants will be going through this exact process.
Even after all that, the show has the right to not film at the last minute or not include the segment in a show after filming.
There are a lot of other factors that go into filming one show. It's a process, but it would mean huge success for our local restaurants.
Just looking at all the restaurants in our area and in the Texas Panhandle, we have so many that would be a perfect fit for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Let's flood the Food Network, and the producers of Triple - D with Amarillo and Texas Panhandle restaurant suggestions and get Guy Fieri and his red Camaro into our area.
Again, here's all the information to suggest a restaurant, visit Guy's website here and fill out the form to suggest a Triple D Hotspot. Another way of suggesting a restaurant is to email, storyideas@tripledinfo.com.
