The Incandescent Light Bulb is Banned in Texas

Most people like their houses lit up so they can see in the dark. Here's what's happening, your house will be lit, but it may be with something completely different than what you want.

The light bulb is banned

OK, not all light bulbs but certain types of light bulbs. If you are a fan of the halogen or incandescent light bulb, then you, need to get to the store now and stock up. Unfortunately, they are now banned in Texas and across the US. As of August 1, 2023, the Department of Energy will start enforcing the ban on incandescent light bulbs. This means retailers won't be allowed to sell them anymore, and they have probably already started pulling them from the shelves.

According to to GE Lighting,

Since halogen/incandescent light bulbs are less energy efficient than several other bulb types, The Department of Energy has recently set new standards for light bulb manufacturers. As part of a nationwide push towards energy efficiency, federally mandated requirements state that lights must now produce more light energy than they use, or at least 45 lumens per watt, effectively banning non-energy efficient halogen or incandescent light bulbs from production.

Now don't worry, you will still be able to buy LED lights.

You see, these lights save energy and don't harm the environment like the incandescent light bulb. However, they are almost double if not more, the cost of the incandescent light bulb.

If losing your favorite light bulb scares you, prepare yourself because certain bans will be coming to appliances.

This is all in an effort to make things more energy efficient. Unfortunately, for us as consumers, the more energy efficient and newer technology things are, the bigger the price tag.

Stock up while you can on halogen and incandescent light bulbs, because the ban won't affect what you currently have in your home, it just means you won't be able to purchase them anymore.
