AAA Texas: Gas Prices Steady This Week, Still Near Record August Highs

Texas gas prices are ridiculous. I nearly choked the other day when my husband sent me a picture of the gas pump after he filled up his truck; it was $90. Keep in mind this man drives a lot and fills up at least once per week. This is hitting our gas budget hard. Gas prices have remained steady, but they are still way too high.

How Much Is Gas in Texas Right Now?

According to AAA Texas, the average price of gas per gallon in Texas is $3.63. It's a one-cent drop from last week. El Paso is still stuck at the top, paying the most; this week it is $3.91 per gallon. McAllen is paying the least at $3.45 per gallon. Nationally, drivers are paying $4.09.

Last week, Amarillo had the highest jump in gas prices by 26 cents; this week, San Angelo had the highest jump at 18 cents.

Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas, said, August is shaping up to be the most expensive on record, with continued uncertainty in the global oil market and crude oil prices remaining important factors to watch.

Why Are Gas Prices So High Right Now?

According to OilPrice.com, Brent crude oil is $89.93 per barrel, while WTI crude is at $83.77 per barrel.

Is the US Really Running Out of Oil?

Another weird occurrence this week was when social media went crazy sharing that there were only 41 days of oil left in the US. According to Patrick De Haan, the belief is that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is almost completely drained, which isn't true.

Although we aren't seeing gas price relief, we can only hope that the closer we get to fall, the more the prices will drop.
