We are blessed to live in a city that has so many choices for education.  Amarillo has Amarillo College and a branch of West Texas A&M University (WTAMU).  We also have Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and the Veterinary Program.

Clarendon College and Wayland Baptist University also have branches in Amarillo. Residents have so many choices when it comes to furthering their education.

One of the professions that is in demand is nursing. WTAMU 's Laura and Joe Street School of Nursing is a leading program in the region. The state-of-the-art facilities are located in Downtown Amarillo.

After graduating and moving into nursing careers, nurses are required to continue their education through continuing education classes.  Nurses in Texas must complete 20 CEUs in Texas every 2 years.

Now they can take those continuing education classes through WTAMU. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences Center has earned accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Why Accreditation Matters for Nurses

The accreditation will allow WT to offer professional development courses to those nurses in rural and underserved communities.

Dr. Holly Jeffreys, Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, said the ability to provide continuing education opportunities for nurses everywhere is just another way the WT nursing community is leading the way in nursing.

This will allow WT to reach nurses who live far from major healthcare hubs.

CE Course Formats: Webinars, Workshops, Symposiums

The ANCC is the gold standard for nursing education, and being accredited by the ANCC demonstrates WT's high standards and the mission to strengthen healthcare through education.
