Javier Meza’s Rise: Amarillo’s Undefeated Boxer Hits National Stage
The Amarillo sports scene has been buzzing a little bit as of late. More and more athletes from the city have been making it to the big time, whether it be college or pro ball.
The two most recent ones to make some noise have been Heston Kjerstad, who's been spending time at the MLB level, and Brendan Hausen, who has played at nothing but big-time college basketball programs.

The Success Of Amarillo Athletes
Kjerstad has been one of the most successful athletes to come out of Amarillo in recent memory. Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 36th round of the MLB Draft straight out of Randall High School, he opted to go to college at the University of Arkansas. The move paid off as he was drafted second overall by the Baltimore Orioles this time. He's played in over 100 MLB games since then.
Hausen was a highly recruited basketball guard out of Amarillo High School, and ultimately landed at Villanova after being recruited by the legendary coach Jay Wright. Well, Wright retired shortly after that, and Hausen never found his footing at Villanova. He transferred to Kansas State and led the Wildcats in all 3-point categories. He decided to transfer to the University of Iowa for his senior season.
The Latest Amarillo Athlete To Do Big Things
We head into the ring for the latest one to show up from the 806, and he's off to an impressive start. His name is Javier Meza, and he's a professional boxer.
Meza recently signed on with Golden Boy Promotions, the company headed by legendary boxer Oscar De La Hoya, and it's proven to be a big move for the Amarillo boxer. He's getting set for his fourth professional bout on Thursday, July 24th.
Who Is Meza Taking On
He will step into the ring undefeated as a pro, currently sitting with a 3-0 record. His opponent will be Alen Dudo out of Aurora, CO., who recently made the transition from MMA to boxing and currently has a 0-1-1 record.
They'll be fighting at the super lightweight weight class, which is 140 lbs, but Meza mentioned they'll most likely do what is called a catch rate, which allows them to be at 141 and still classify as a super lightweight.
Where Can I Watch The Fight
If you'd like to watch it from the comfort of your own home, it'll be on the boxing streaming service DAZN as part of Golden Boy Fight Night.
Feel like going out and rooting him on with a crowd? There will be a watch party happening at The Big Texan, and they'll even have some Team Meza merch for you to snag while you're there.
