The conversation that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started by first sitting for and later taking a knee during the National Anthem continues on as the NFL enters the second week of its 2016 season. Lil Wayne, as avid a sports fan as maybe any rapper out, was a guest on Fox Sports 1's new Undisputed, a First Take style discussion-based show, and had some surprising comments on Kaepernick's actions, saying that he himself has never encountered the injustice that the football player is protesting.

"I have no opinion on it because I’m not into it enough to even give an opinion," he said, noting that he had to have the whole situation explained to him and still doesn't fully grasp the motivations. "That whole wave went by me too fast."

"God knows I have been nothing but blessed," he continued. "My whole path these 33 years have been nothing but a blessing. I have never, and never is a strong word, never dealt with racism and I’m glad I didn’t have to. I don’t know if it’s because of my blessings but it is my reality."

Wayne additionally says that he thought the country had grown out of its racist past, citing the crowd diversity at his shows. He as well says that any protest, anthem or flag, for him, boils down to his children.

Hip-hop has otherwise been somewhat split on Kaepernick’s conversation starting actions, with J. Cole wearing the QB’s jersey on stage earlier this month. Fat Joe meanwhile said just last week that he couldn’t support Kaepernick and those protesting with him. Listen to Wayne's comments in the video above.
