Lil Wayne Seemingly Announces His Retirement on Twitter
Is Lil Wayne done making music forever?
That's the message the rapper seemed to send early Saturday morning (September 3) when he tweeted, "I luh my fanz but I'm dun."
The cryptic tweet, of course, has fans in a panic, and while it's unclear if Wayne meant that he was definitively retiring from the rap game, the hip-hop titan has been talking of leaving the music business since 2014.
"I AM NOW DEFENSELESS AND mentally DEFEATED & I leave gracefully and thankful," he prefaced the tweet, adding in another post, "ain't looking for sympathy, just serenity."
Speaking to MTV in 2014, Wayne said that The Carter V would be his last album released as a solo artist.
"I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes and it's definitely the final Carter album. It's the final Carter album. It's stopping at five," he promised.
The artist has plenty of other good reasons to leave the music game behind him: His estranged relationship with Birdman, the boss of his label Cash Money Records, is as toxic as ever. According to TMZ, Weezy has attempted to sue the label head several times for both allegedly interfering with the release of his last album, as well as withholding money owed to him.
Wayne has also been plagued with medical troubles, and has been suffering from seizures reportedly induced by epilepsy since at least 2012.
Whether or not this is truly the end of Weezy's solo career, there's still the promise of him working as a collaborator with other artists: Just this year, Wayne collaborated with Ariana Grande on her Dangerous Woman track "Let Me Love You," remixed Zayn's "Pillowtalk," and worked with 2 Chainz on a project titled Collegrove.
