Just a couple of days ago, we heard that the Amarillo Zoo may potentially be up for sale. However, there are some major complications that come with something like that, and it fired up the community.

Many started firing back at the city about the concept of it and firing back at the local government.

Where Did The Rumor Come From

It apparently leaked from a closed door executive session that happened, and Councilman Les Simpson was less than pleased about the development.

He said that there were only preliminary conversations, zero decisions, and mentioned how any kind of proposal would go through a public process that was transparent.

What Would The Steps Be To Sell The Amarillo Zoo

It's not as easy as one would think. Because the zoo is city-owned, it has many steps it has to go through. First things first, it would have to be on a city council agenda just for a true conversation to happen.

The conversation would have to happen in a public forum where members of the city can speak up and give their thoughts to be heard and considered before anything like that could ever happen.

Mayor Stanley Says Amarillo Zoo Is Not For Sale

With the rumors starting to create waves, Mayor Stanley came forward and stated the zoo is not for sale. He mentioned how it's public land and that voters would have to call an election to vote it through...or not.

He also mentioned that the only thing that had been discussed was improving conditions for the animals.
