Sad news, but do understand that with the Olympics approaching, all the changes being made to the NBC's The Today Show are for the better.  And by "better", that almost always means MONEY!  But alas, we must say our goodbyes to Ann Curry.

The Today Show is refining it's "talent" line up as they gear up for the biggest broadcast of the year, happening at the Olympics.

The Guardian reports:

With only a month to go before it begins its high-stakes broadcast of the Olympic Games, NBC is performing a major reshuffling of its top talent.

The network has offered Savannah Guthrie the co-host job of the Today show, its flagship morning program, and is negotiating an exit for the current co-host, Ann Curry.

Ann is a great television broadcaster, with an amazing track record, I have no doubt that we'll be seeing her back on TV in a matter of days, weeks max!

But why are they cutting Ann Curry to beef up for the broadcast?  It doesn't make sense?

The Guardian also reports:

After announcing losses of $223m on the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010, NBC has paid $1.18bn for the exclusive rights to broadcast the upcoming summer games. More than any other program, the Today show will be charged with making good on that bet.

So, as I said at the very beginning, it's all about money!  It sucks when your a caring personality, but to your company, your just a number on a piece of paper that makes X amount of dollars per year.  It looks like the more you make, the more likely you are to be fired when they re-think budgets for the year.

My heart goes out to Ann and I pray for her that this will not be the end, but only the beginning of a new chapter of her life, paving the way to bigger and better things.
