Groundbreaking Set for Amarillo’s State-of-the-Art Fire Station
One thing Amarillo is not shy about is construction and building things. However, most of those things built are businesses that only impact the community in the sense of having more places to shop or get coffee.
Last week, we saw the Rockrose Sports Complex finally break ground after two years of fundraising and waiting. Now, next week we will see yet another groundbreaking that will take place, and this will affect the community in a totally different way.
Amarillo's New Fire Station
On Tuesday, October 14, ground will be broken on the new Amarillo fire station, Fire Station 14. There is a ceremony scheduled for 11 am that day, and it'll be at that ceremony where they will have the groundbreaking on the project.
The fire station was approved by the city council in July, and it'll be located in northwest Amarillo at 810 Quail Creek Drive.
State Of The Art Facility
The project will be a pricey one, but a worthwhile spend. The fire station will cost $7.3 million to complete, but it'll be a state-of-the-art place. It'll be a two-story fire station, and it will be nearly 19,000 square feet.
It'll be more than just a fire station, though. It'll also include a training space for the entire Amarillo Fire Department to utilize. So, new firefighters will find themselves over there working on becoming the next brave first responders in the city.
The project is expected to take around 13-14 months to complete, but as with anything in Amarillo, that'll depend on the weather cooperating.
