Recalls are very serious, especially when they effect the food that we and our children eat. Now no illnesses have yet to be reported, but J.M. Smucker Company has announced a voluntary recall for select chunky peanut butters.
While we all love a good peanut butter sandwich, we want to make extra sure that it is safe to eat. And that is exactly what Smucker is doing. Peanut butters from their 'Naturals' line have been recalled because they may be contaminated with salmonella. There are two specific best-if-used by dates of 16-ounce Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter Chunky that are of concern.

If you have bought some recently, this is what you need to look for:

*UPC: 5150001701 (located on the side of the jar's label below the bar code)

*Production Codes: 1307004 and 1308004

*Best-if-used-by dates: August3, 2012 and August 4, 2012.

*Chunky product only

According to Smucker, you would have purchased the peanut butter between November 8-17, 2011.  The states affected include, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

So if you have recently bought some peanut butter, go check out the dates and make sure that your family is safe!
