In Greeley, Colorado they have banned the number 18 Denver Bronco Jerseys at all Greeley Schools. Well the number 18 happens to be one of the star players of the Denver Broncos Peyton Manning. His Jersey has been the most bought jersey in NFL since he has arrived in Denver after being traded from the Indianapolis Colts. So anytime you walk around in Denver you always see the number 18 around on peoples Jerseys. Well for some kids in Greeley the number 18 is not allowed to be worn at school. That also applies to the numbers 13, 14, 31, 41 and 81. The reasoning is that they say it is gang-related.

A District spokesman Roger Fiedler told the local news :

"We're really trying to eliminate or minimize the presence of gangs in our schools," Fiedler said. "There are gangs in the community. We take a very aggressive stance in keeping that activity and that behavior off of school grounds. Part of that is banning some of the colors numbers and others insignia that are closely identified with gangs.

These rules apply to all schools in Greeley from elementary through high school and have been implemented now for about 4 years.

Do you think the rules in Greeley are a little over-board or are they doing a good job by protecting their kids from gangs?
