There is a "Boil Water Notice" in effect till Thursday, June 13th, 2013 or later.  Portions of Amarillo are affected after a 20 inch cast-iron water main broke Sunday evening on Amarillo Boulevard near English Road.  Citizens in the affected area are reminded to boil their water before consuming it.

The affected areas include:

  • 9500 – 9700 blocks of Crystal Avenue
  • 8500 – 15300 blocks of Amarillo Boulevard East
  • 1100-1300 blocks of Folsom Road
  • 10001-10200 block of Triangle Drive
  • 1800 – 2000 blocks of English Road

“To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and for making ice should be boiled or cooked prior to consumption,” says Floyd Hartman, assistant director of Utilities. “The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.  In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water or ice from some other suitable source.”

Crews worked throughout the day yesterday and into the early morning today. They were installing new pipe, flushing the lines, and disinfecting the affected area. The entire process was completed at 6:00am. The City of Amarillo is now able to provide water for fire flow and other essential purposes. Citizens in the affected areas are reminded that the Boil Water Notice remains in effect until testing has been completed, which is expected Thursday or later.

The public will be notified through the media once the Boil Water Notice has been lifted. For more information or questions, contact the City’s Utility department at 806-378-9086.
