Amarillo is home to some incredibly constructed buildings. Beautiful buildings that had tons of character, angles, and markings. Sadly, as the city continues to grow and become more "modernized", we are beginning to lose some of those buildings.

One of those buildings is located on Fillmore St. It was a place you didn't want to have to go inside, but you could appreciate its architecture.

Sadly, that building now has a timeline to disappear from Amarillo.

The building I'm talking about is the old Potter County District Courthouse. Operations moved from that building to a new building at 350 SE 6th St. when it was completed in June, and now the old courthouse is set to be demolished.

According to a progress report about the new building, some light was shed on when the old courthouse would cease to exist.

This document shows that the demolition of the old courthouse is set to take place in two different stages, and won't be something that is a quick ordeal.

The demolition of the courthouse is set to take place over a six month period, starting this month and running through April 2025. That timeframe should take care of the demolition of the entire building.

The main question remains what type of demolition is going to take place and how are they going to do it.

Moving on to the second phase of it will be the parking lot project, which is also slated to have a six month period from February 2025, to June 2025. The two projects will run concurrently from February to April 2025.

The Abandoned St. Anthony's Hospital on Amarillo Boulevard

The 119-year-old abandoned hospital is a fascinating place for any who are lucky enough to be granted the chance to explore.

The sprawling building saw thousands of Amarillo's citizens inside its halls daily, all the the way until it was shuttered in 2001. But there are still incredible artifacts of the all-too-recent past tucked away in the nooks and crannies of the old St. Anthony.

The explorer who took these photographs gave the following information:

"Many rooms were left untouched, we found patient files, old prescriptions, a blood transfusion machine from the 60s, and microscopic slides of breast cancer from the 70s and 80s. I put one picture in here of some heart scans so you can see the dates and diagnosis of the patient, but marked out the patient’s names of course. During a time when mental illness was not understood, 76 exorcisms were documented to have been performed between 1909 and 1931."
