With the holidays coming up, a lot of people will be leaving Amarillo for other destinations. Some will drive, many will fly. If you're planning on hopping on an airplane and you're flying out of Rick Husband International Airport, you need to be aware of some things.

This also is important info for those that may be picking up relatives or friends from the airport as well.

Not too long ago, they announced there was a four-phase project that was going to be taking place to improve the airport, and that has officially gotten underway.

Starting Monday, Oct. 14, should you be entering the airport and the parking lot that resides south of the garage, you're going to find yourself in the middle of some construction.

Rosenwald Drive, Batson Road and the long-term parking lot entrance will be completely closed, so you won't be able to access any of that. Furthermore, if you are picking people up from the airport, they're asking that you NOT use the cell phone parking area during the construction phase.

Michael Conner, the Director of Aviation at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport said, “We ask that people who are going to be using cellphones as a communications method to use Airport Boulevard, not to park in place of the cell phone parking lot and not to park on any of the detour roads. Just because we’ll have lots of traffic on the detour roads.”

They expect the first phase of the project to be completed by Spring 2025, then they'll move on to phase two of the project which will affect the outdoor lot as well as the departures road.
