Listen, we still have eight months before Spider-Man: Homecoming is released in theaters, so it’s not exactly surprising that there hasn’t been so much as a teaser trailer for Tom Holland’s first solo Spidey adventure. If a new rumor is to be believed (and it seems likely), then that will change relatively soon, as the first trailer for Homecoming is reportedly attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Unlike Warner Bros., which has made a weird habit of releasing teasers and multiple trailers an entire year or more before their blockbusters arrive (we’ve already seen three Wonder Woman trailers!), Marvel usually debuts their first trailer about six or seven months ahead of release. According to’s sources, that’s certainly the case with Spider-Man: Homecoming, as the trailer is said to be hitting theaters with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16.

Sony has yet to comment on the matter, but as far as rumors go, this is a pretty believable one. Rogue One is a Disney film, and hits theaters seven months before Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since January is typically uneventful for big studio movies, Sony and Marvel probably want to piggyback on Disney’s last major release of the year — which happens to be a Star Wars movie that’s arriving around Christmastime, guaranteeing that Spider-Man trailer will be seen by millions of nerdy eyeballs.

Although unconfirmed, we’re going to place this rumor in the “viable” pile. And if true, it also means that the first Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer will likely hit the internet a day or two before it hits theaters.

Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya and Michael Keaton, and arrives on July 7, 2017.
