5 Must Have Snacks At Amarillo Buc-ee’s

The excitement is palpable, the anticipation is unavoidable. I've never seen a place SO excited for something to open its doors. I mean, December 16 should probably just be made a holiday in Amarillo.

That's the day Buc-ee's is opening their doors in Amarillo, and based on everything I've seen and heard, at least half the city will be waiting outside to get the first look at this glorious place.

Now, I've seen a few people call it "just another gas station", but if you've been, you know it's WAY more than that. I won't get into the specifics, I'll let you see that for yourself.

When I lived in Austin, I had one just about 30-35 minutes south of my house, and we used to go every now and again. There is so much in there to indulge in that it can be overwhelming, and expensive if you let it.

Because of that, I wanted to help break it down a little bit. It's so easy to stroll up to the register to pay and all of a sudden you're $100+ deep. Don't get me wrong, it's well worth every penny, but it adds up fast.

Because it's in our backyard now, you don't have to get EVERYTHING all in one shot, so I'm going to break down a few of the best things, in my humble opinion, that you should focus on for your first trip in.

BEAVER NUGGETS

This is automatic, and it's also what everyone else is going to be chasing down. So what are these glorious snacks? Think Cheetos and caramel corn mixed together. I know it sounds weird, but it's not.

They're puffs that are lightly coated in caramel, and they are beyond addictive. I'm not the biggest fan of Cheetos or caramel corn, but there is something about these I just can't get enough of. Like I said, if you see them, grab them, because everyone else will. PS, there are several different flavors you can choose from.

BEEF JERKY

I get it, you can get beef jerky pretty much anywhere...but not like this. Some beef jerky is tough, and when you rip it off, you can see it being dry or not tasting like, well, beef. That is not the case with Buc-ee's.

Tender jerky that packs so much flavor, and leaves no doubt they use true beef to make this jerky make it beyond addicting. With SO many different flavors to choose from, you'll find your favorite, and probably a new favorite. My recommendation? Try the Bohemian Garlic, it'll change your life.

FUDGE

OMG, the fudge. Look, I like fudge, but not ALL that often. I'm good with it in small doses...unless it's Buc-ee's fudge. They make it right there in the store, and it's not dried out like a lot of other fudge you find in places.

Just like anything in the store, there are SO many different types of flavors to choose from. I'm a sucker for mint anything, so the mint-flavored fudge is hands down my favorite. You can buy it by the pound, and it can get a touch pricey, but it's worth it.

SALT WATER TAFFY

This is a tricky one, because you either love salt water taffy or hate it. Even if it's not high on your list of snacks, I highly recommend giving the taffy at Buc-ee's a try. Pick your favorite flavor of something else and slip it in your mouth.

With just about every flavor available you can think of, including sour flavors, this taffy just melts in your mouth when you bite into it. Super soft and flavorful, it could change your view on salt water taffy as a whole.

COFFEE

Ok, I know this seems like a cheap one to put on there, but I promise it's not. Gas station coffee is rarely the best cup you can sip on, but again, Buc-ee's is more than just a gas station, it's an experience.

The coffee bar at Buc-ee's is crazy big, and you can concoct and create all sorts of different types of coffee drinks. You aren't limited to just a piping hot cup of joe, you can create your favorite cold brew drink, or hot if you prefer. Give it a rip and be your own barista.
