Cheating Scandal Involving Teachers Rocks Texas Schools
We've seen our fair share of different scandals in Texas. Some have been bigger than others, but the latest scandal to rock the state was hurting kids, and potentially putting them in danger.
Many times we've heard of kids cheating on tests in school. They look at someone else's paper, maybe they were given the answers by someone who had previously taken the test, but never have I heard of teachers cheating on a test.
That's exactly what's happened, and we aren't talking about some normal type of test. We're talking about the test where they gain certification to become a teacher.
The Texas Education Agency, or TEA, is looking into the possibility that 50 teachers in North Texas were part of an elaborate scheme to obtain their teaching licenses. As of right now, there are six teachers that have been confirmed in the Dallas ISD system.
Back in October, prosecutors uncovered the elaborate scheme and charge three individuals within the Houston ISD and two other Texas teachers with running the scheme. It was a multi-million dollar operation.
Individuals would pay someone else to take the certification test for them so they would pass it and be granted their teaching license. As the TEA dug into it, they found people that had failed the test, but then would magically pass it after taking the test in Houston.
They stated they were aware of 400 tests taken and 200 teachers were ultimately falsely certified. That's an alarming number. The alleged ringleader of the operation, Vincent Grayson, raked in over $1 million in the scheme.
Even scarier, two of the people that were falsely certified were sexual predators. By becoming a teacher, it gave them access to hundreds of underage students.
