Is The Texas Lottery On The Brink Of Not Existing?
Lately there has been a lot of talk about the Texas Lottery, and some of it has been very eye-opening. Just last week, news came out that the Texas Lottery may have been involved in a money laundering scheme.
That was enough to raise some serious red flags with lawmakers, especially since there had been other issues with the lottery to begin with.
Concerns over the ability to purchase lottery tickets online and through various apps, not to mention lottery couriers who allow massive numbers of tickets to be purchased at one time has shone a very big and bright light on the operation.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has now raised some concerns about whether the Texas Lottery can even survive at this point.
Patrick recently stated that he had "lost confidence" in the Texas Lottery, furthering that statement by saying if the public can't trust them, they'll stop buying lottery tickets.
This is all on the heels of a Texas Lottery jackpot of $83.5 million being won on Monday. Normally, this would just be a brief blip of news. However, the ticket was sold by a lottery courier in Austin.
The ticket was sold at Winners Corner, and when he visited, he described it as a place that was "just spitting out tickets," and also mentioned how there were "racks and racks" of lottery terminals.
It's illegal to have a standalone store that sells ONLY lottery tickets, so Winners Corner also sells board games to get around that restriction.
The Texas Lottery is currently under investigation by the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
