We all know what a tool the internet can be. You've heard the saying, "you can find anything on the internet", and that couldn't be more true when it comes to Texas. You won't believe what I found, and it's truly kind of creepy.

We are truly in an age where there is ZERO privacy these days, and it seems that just about anyone can find you. Tracking, GPS, and now this tool that I found.

I understand that what I'm about to show you is public record stuff, and if you want to find the info, it's not difficult. However, there was at least a process that made you think about whether you wanted to take the time to track down the info you seek.

Now? You can just hop online and find out who owns any property in the state, whether it's a business or a private residence.

There is a searchable map online that allows you to simply plug in an address and it'll pop up the last known owner of the address.

I decided to test it and see just how accurate it was. I looked up the current address I live at and sure enough, the owners name popped up (yes, I rent). So curiosity got the better of me and I went down a rabbit hole.

My next search was for the house I first rented when my family moved here. Since we moved out, the house was renovated a bit and sold, so I know for a fact there is a different owner of the house.

When I looked up the address, it had the owner listed as the person I was renting it from, so the updates on it aren't immediate. It appears it's updated once per year as it gave me the "owner in 2023" on the map.

My next search was to see what it would pop up for businesses. I looked up a national business and a local business. Buffalo Wild Wings came to mind, not sure why, but I looked up the owner of the Coulter location. Sure enough, it popped up a business entity as the owner being HOW NO. 1 INC.

Staying on Coulter, I checked out the place where my boys and I get our hair cut, and the owner popped up as an LLC with a different mailing address from the actual location I looked up.

One more search I decided to try was the house I lived in for 7+ years in Austin. I knew the name of the owner of the house, but was shocked to find the house is actually owned by the persons family trust. Crazy, right?

It's a wild tool and you'll find yourself going down a rabbit hole of epic proportions, so apologies in advance for all the time wasted with this cool, yet kinda scary, tool. If you want to dig deeper, you can go to the Open Map Tiles website and see what they're all about.
