Thanksgiving is the time of year when every family member brings out their best recipes.  Nobody can make gravy like grandma or Aunt Rita makes the best cheesecake around.  Well here is the best green bean casserole recipe ever!

I am someone who loves to be in the kitchen.  Most of the meals we eat at home are made from scratch and are family recipes.  My great aunt Mary is one of the best cooks, bakers, and pastry chefs I have ever met.  Over the years she has shared her best recipes with me.

Now I am not much of a vegetable eater, but one of my favorite dishes at Thanksgiving is my sweet aunt Mary's green bean casserole.  I have decided to share it with you so enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon white sugar

1/4 cup onion, diced

1 cups sour cream

3 (14.5 once) cans French style green beans, drained

2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1/2 cup crumbled buttery round crackers

1 tablespoon butter, melted

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

2. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat.  Stir in flour until smooth, and cook for one minute.  Stir in salt, sugar, onion, and sour cream.  Add green beans, and stir to coat.

3. Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.  Spread shredded cheese over the top.  In a small bowl toss together cracker crumbs and remaining butter, and sprinkle over the cheese.

4. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden and cheese is bubbly.

This is my favorite Thanksgiving dish (besides the desserts.)  Take this to this year's Thanksgiving dinner and I guarantee it will be a hit.  Enjoy!
