The Darker Side of Amarillo – The Dustin Pool Murder
One of the things I love most about Amarillo is that it is a great place to raise a family. That is what I have always said. It's not a busy city like Dallas but it has stuff to do. You feel safe taking your family to the park.
You feel safe having outside activities. Amarillo really is a good place. Back in 2003 was when I was first thinking maybe this was not the place I thought it was. I know every city has its dark side. I was living in my own little world.
I didn't, at that point, know we had a drug scene like this until the Dustin Pool murder came to light. Apparently, Dustin Pool was in one drug group. He made some other drug leaders mad in a rival group. Really we had more than one big drug group? I had no idea. I was a mom to a young girl and was in my own little world, I liked it in that world.
How this story never became a show on Investigation Discover I will never know. It played out like a made-for-TV movie. A girl by the name of Tori Patrick lured Dustin to her apartment at River Falls here in Amarillo.
Dustin did not know that waiting for him were two brothers: Josh and Michael Stocker. Word was that Pool was allegedly the leader of a methamphetamine distribution ring that rivaled one in which Stocker was involved. There was a feud going on which lead to a beating. There was a fireplace poker involved. Dustin was not going to come out of this. He ended up being tortured. His head was taped. In the end, they stuffed a sock down his throat.
Then they had to find something to do with his body. Dustin was missing for three months before they found his body in cement in an abandoned grain silo. It took three months for talk to get to where the police had a lead that brought them to this silo.
Joshua Stocker - Capital Murder
Michael Stocker - Sentenced to 10 Years Probation
Tori Patrick - Probation
If you are a follower of Randall County Mugshots page on Facebook and you search for Tori Patrick you will see other mugshots listed.
All in all, there were nine people arrested for this murder. They either went to trial or took the plea deal.
This murder and trial were years and years ago and I really hope that those involved either paid their debt. Dustin lost his life so he was never given the chance to clean up his life. I really hope that those who were involved were able to clean up their lives.
This was one of those stories that have haunted me over the years.
