Texas Tech football had their final two practices last week following their third and final spring game. With those last two practices out of the way we now know everything we will know until the football festivities resume in the fall.

The problem is, we don't know much.

Not only is it hard to gauge spring football success because it's all intra-squad scrimmaging, it's also hard because Kliff Kingsbury is notoriously stingy with information. That being said here's 3 things you can take away for the summer to whet your whistle until football resumes in the fall.

First, check out these pics from the Spring Game held at the Jones.

Back to the action, here are three things we can take away from the spring that Texas Tech Football had.

The Receiving Corps is Incredibly Deep

There are 12 receivers listed on the depth chart.

Most of them have played in Big 12 games.

The only one who hasn't played in a Texas Tech jersey yet is De'Quan Bowman.

Jonathon Giles was a Biletnikoff semi finalist in 2016. Dylan Cantrell is entering his 3rd full season as a starter. Keke Coutee had the best Big 12 season out of all the recievers in 2016. Cameron Batson caught 60 balls last season. Derek Willies is back and healthy with a year of FBS experience.

    I could keep going.

The fact is whoever is playing QB in 2017 will have plenty of talent to get the ball to.

Nic Shimonek will be the starter in 2017

Speaking of QB in 2017, Nic Shimonek is your guy.

He's just as big as Mahomes, and has been in the system as long as Mahomes was in it for his entire time as a Red Raider.

I'm not saying Nic Shimonek is going to surpass, or even match, the productivity of Mahomes, but I do think we can be confident in the mantle of QB1 being passed to Shimonek.

The back up role, however; is wide open.

To me, true freshman Xavier Martin had the best spring, but he'll likely be slapped with a redshirt to prolong his learning curve with out the added pressure.

Payne Sullins and McLane Carter are the most likely candidates to seize the job but will likely take their place as 3rd string behind the suspended Jett Duffey when he makes his return in the fall.

Neither Sullins nor Carter did enough to surpass anyone on the depth chart. I would slot Carter ahead of Sullins but hopefully there are no situations where a 3rd string QB is playing out of necessity.

    The Defense is Improving

I have no stats to quantify this statement.

    Not legitimate stats anyways.

The Defense won two out of three spring games though.

I desperately want this to be true.

    Do those count?

Dakota Allen and Jordyn Brooks will be your best linebacker duo the Red Raiders have had in a long time.

The secondary has a strong mix of JUCO new blood and veterans.

I feel like Peter Pan trying to bring the defense back to life.
