Transformation Park In Amarillo Is Going Through…Well, Transformation
Transformation Park in Amarillo has been a rousing success by many measures, and something that has provided people a chance to really get back on their feet. It's something that all cities should have, or at least the bigger ones.
It has lessened the panhandling and amount of people we see sleeping in underpasses of highways and other places, while giving these people a chance to restart their lives.
Because of the success of it, the city has decided to now make some improvements to it that will further improve the security and safety of the area.
The Amarillo City Council just passed a measure that will invest $250,000 into the park, including things such as surveillance cameras, upgraded internet capabilities, metal detectors, and bag scanners.
What it will also do is create a few new jobs as security guards for the park, thus giving a few people something they can hang their hat on and earn money with.
These items were not part of the initial budget when they were planning for Transformation Park, but Transformation Park Executive Director Mark Zimmerman viewed them as essential to the area.
“By addressing potential issues proactively, we can help minimize calls that eventually require police intervention. This system isn’t just a security upgrade — it’s an investment in the safety and future of our community.”
The security cameras won't be just centrally located on one area of Transformation Park. Yes, it'll monitor the entire perimeter of the facility, but it will also extend out to a two-block radius to keep residents safe.
Many use the bus and other public transportation to move around the city, and the cameras will have an eye on the bus stop near by. Furthermore, the footage from the cameras won't be limited to just whoever is responsible for watching the cameras there.
It'll be piped into the Amarillo Regional Crime Center so police can respond expeditiously to any crime that may be taking place.
