When it comes to the world we live in today, is it weird to be honest? Is it so rare that people are honestly shocked by honesty?

I have had several instances where people think I'm crazy when I'm being honest.  They just look at you with a deer in a headlights look.

Take for instance, this weekend, my fella and I went and had lunch at a local restaurant.  When we got the ticket, I noticed the waiter hadn't charged us for our drinks.  I looked at the fella and said, "he didn't charge us for the drinks."  The fella flagged the waiter down and we let him know he didn't charge us for our drinks.  He kind of looked at us weird and came back to the table with the adjusted ticket, he smiled and said, "I split it 50/50."  He only charged us for one drink.

I don't know if this was his way of getting a bigger tip by not charging for drinks?  I won't ever know.  However, I did leave him $3 more on his tip.

I just didn't want his drawer to come up short and he have to pay the difference.  I just felt it was wrong not to pay for the drinks.

Another recent instance, I was as a big store here in Amarillo and I had just a few items so I did the self checkout (which I hate by the way).   I got everything scanned, paid and headed to my car.  Only to find out half way to the car, there in the corner of the basket was the milk.  Hiding.   I turned around and headed back into the store.  I told the greeter what happened and she just looked at me like I was crazy.  I made my way back to self checkout, stood in line and paid for my milk.

Why do people act like I'm the crazy one for being honest.  Have we as a society just learned to expect dishonesty?  If this is the case, it makes me sad.

I'm not writing this to toot my own horn and say look at me, I'm writing to truly find out if there is more honest people in the world than what I have seen?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.
