This is one the Amarillo Police Dept. is needing some help with y'all!  A car chase that took place yesterday in Amarillo, and no arrests have been made.  And yes, it's a result of another holiday crime!  Just showing you that holiday crime prevention is a must!

I spoke with Sgt. Barbee in the Amarillo Police Crimes Prevention Unit and he laid it all out for me.

Around 5:06pm yesterday in the 45th and Bell area is where the police chase started.  The suspect was trying to cash a stolen check, which was stolen out of someone's car (holiday crimes right there), at the Amarillo National Bank on 45th & Bell.

Cops actually showed up at the bank to apprehend the suspect, but he had a different plan and fled the scene.  As you know, between 5:00pm and 7:00pm, 45th is a very high traffic street!  So officers had no choice but to call off the chase before an innocent person got hurt.

Not that long later, a female officer spotted the suspect around 58th & Coral, and tried to stop him.  The suspect fled through a construction zone near Sonic at 58th & Western.  He then crossed open country, by a drainage lake called Playa Lake (love that name!).

At that time, the officer terminated the chase, making for a 2nd termination.

Be on the look out for a yellow Nissan Xterra, the suspect is a white male, in his mid 40's, approximately 5ft 11in and 180lbs.

If you have any information or think you spot the suspect, you can call and remain anonymous by contacting Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.

Again, back to a point I was making above, this all stemmed from a holiday crime!  Theives are out there, checking for unlocked doors, and stealing personal property, like checks and check books as we see in this particular incident.  Don't be a victim!
