Amarillo Police officers had their hands full last night with a vehicle pursuit that ended about 7 miles east of Amarillo.  APD officers noticed a car on that was traveling very slow, just above idle, near 45th & the Canyon E-Way.  APD flashed their lights to stop the vehicle, but the driver had some different plans, and the car chase began.

Amarillo Police:

"On Wednesday night, 10-23-13, at about 11:40 PM, an APD officer saw a vehicle traveling at a speed just above “idle” near 45th and the Canyon E-way. He ran the Kansas tag on the car and found that it was reported stolen out of Kansas. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver of the red Chevrolet Monte Carlo refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle went south on Canyon Drive, to S. Western, back to 45th, then east to the Canyon E-way. The pursuit went north on the E-way to IH-40 and east from there. The vehicle would speed up, and then slow to almost stopping several times. The driver could be seen reaching for something in the passenger seat area. The pursuit left the city limits and ended about 7 miles east of the city near Carson County Road C. The driver stopped on the access road and was taken into custody. The driver and only occupant was Eric Wayne Brown, WM 32 years old. He listed an Amarillo address. Officers believe that his movement within the car was his attempt to conceal or destroy marijuana that was in the car. He was taken to the Carson County Jail in Panhandle and booked for the stolen auto, possession of marijuana, evading in a motor vehicle, and several other charges."

Texas DPS and police officers out of Panhandle, TX  assisted in the pursuit.  These things usually end badly in a collision, thankfully this one didn't.  No injuries occurred.
