It is a sad day today, as terrible news comes in this morning, leaving our hearts heavy and our minds wandering.  A father, son, brother, friend, soldier and hero dies in active duty in Afghanistan.  Genaro Bedoy, 20 years old, was taken from us while serving his country.  Friends and family morn the loss of a local hero in Amarillo today.

Genaro graduated from River Road high school, and went on to serve his country, as many others have done.  His death leaves behind a wife, and a 7 week old baby girl.

Sad news indeed.

There aren't a whole lot of details at the moment, but I feel compelled to share so everyone can pay their respects to his family.

There are fund-raisers being orchestrated for the family, River Road High will be accepting donations for his family at the home-coming game on Friday.

Jessi Bangs posts on her Facebook:

My heart is heavy this morning. Will everyone please take a moment to send out a prayer/thought to this family. Genaro was KIA. RIP to a wonderful HERO.

Genaro's wife asks the following:

Just help me remember and honor him as the happy amazing guy he was.

And an amazing guy he was!  I can't believe it, 11 years after the September 11th attacks, and we are still losing family and friends in Afghanistan.  It blows my mind to see this happening and it makes me incredibly sad to see the pain in the faces of those close to him.

R.I.P. Genaro Bedoy, you are a true inspiration to me, and you did not die in vain.
