Why is it that a holiday brings out the best in people?  The very best that they have to get into it and someone ends up dead.

Another homicide took place in Amarillo on Mother's Day.  This marks the 10th homicide in Amarillo since the beginning of the year.  So yay Amarillo, we are averaging about 2 per month.

But why?  Why does life mean so little to people these days?  A life was taken?  Now, why was it taken?  Who knows.  Someone probably offended someone, but who really knows.

Let me take a step off my soapbox and give you the details of what happened on a day that was meant to honor mothers.

The Amarillo Police Department was called out to a shooting on Sunday, May 8th at 5:51 pm.   When they arrived at a home in the 1400 block of North Johnson they found a shooting victim in the front yard.   The victim was identified as Chris Doerue, a 25-year-old male.  He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On arrival at the home, several witnesses were also on location.  Amarillo Police detained two suspects and took them to the APD to interview.  Two males were arrested for murder and booked into the Potter County Jail.  Leonard Hakizimana, male age 21, and Jeremiah Ntirampebs, male 19.

The APD Homicide Unit is still investigating the case.  If you do have information on this case you are encouraged to call 806-378-9468 or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
