Payless ShoeSource has emerged from bankruptcy for the second time, and is planning to open some shuttered stores around the country. Including Amarillo, possibly.

The Topeka, Kansas-based company said Thursday it wants to reinvigorate its largest business unit, Latin America, and North America.

It will also relaunch its U.S. e-commerce site and open some stores in the mid U.S. including Texas, but did not offer specific details. The Soncy Rd. Payless closed in May of 2019, and the location remains vacant.

Payless filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2019 and shuttered the remaining 2,000-plus stores in North America.

Calls to the Topeka HQ have yet to be returned about the fate of the empty store on Soncy Road, however the Associated Press reported that a statement from the shoe giant will be released in the upcoming few weeks. Stand by (barefooted).
